Delighted to say that having been long listed for the Warwick Translation prize 2019, my translation of Ulrike Almut Sandig Thick of it (Seagull Books 2018) was the runner-up in the prestigious Society of Authors Schlegel-Tieck award 2019. Results were announced at an event 12 February 2020 at the British Library.
The judges Emily Jeremiah and Caroline Summers said: 'Leeder is able to reflect the intensity of Sandig's experimental relationship with language ... the translation is a thouht-provoking encounter with words and images, simultaneously familiar and strange: just like Sandig's German texts these are poems that both inhabit and challenge the language that carries them...' 'Thrilling'. Caroline Summers
