In the beginning, was the light, or was it the sound? In Ulrike Almut Sandig’s latest poetry, it is only a leap from the creation of the world to its destruction, from the coast of Lampedusa to contemporary Ukraine. Can shining sheep be used as night storage for the dark hours, when we are overwhelmed with fear? In sequences of playful, elemental, and vibrantly contemporary poems and poetry films, Sandig embraces contemporary literature as well as folk tale but also the urgent issues of today. Full of humour, music, light and rage, these are poems for the here and now, presented in German and English by Sandig and her translator Karen Leeder
